This article delves into the intricate relationship between theoretical orientation and clinical practice in the field of psychotherapy in Buenos Aires. Through a comprehensive study, data were collected from a diverse sample of 314 psychotherapists employed in public hospitals throughout the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires and Greater Buenos Aires. The findings reveal that the psychoanalytic model stands out as the most dominant approach, accounting for 52.9% of the surveyed practitioners. This prevalence highlights the enduring influence of psychoanalysis within the Argentine therapeutic landscape, a testament to its historical roots and foundational role in the development of psychotherapy in the region.

Following closely behind, integrative models represent the second most significant group, comprising 41.7% of the sample. Within this integrative cohort, a noteworthy 61% of psychotherapists indicated that they draw upon psychoanalytic theory as their primary theoretical framework. This suggests a robust engagement with psychoanalytic concepts, even among those who identify as integrative practitioners. Additionally, the cognitive approach emerged as a notable alternative, reported by 19.1% of therapists, further illustrating the diverse array of therapeutic modalities in practice.

These results underscore the vital roles that both psychoanalysis and integrative approaches play among psychotherapists in Buenos Aires, reflecting a rich tapestry of therapeutic practices that cater to a wide range of patient needs. The findings invite further exploration into how these theoretical orientations shape clinical interactions and therapeutic outcomes, as well as their implications for training and professional development in psychotherapy. As the field continues to evolve, understanding these dynamics will be essential for fostering effective therapeutic relationships and enhancing the quality of care provided to individuals seeking psychological support in the region.
